Really pleased to have found this site. I live in the UK, and quite Sugar in January 2016. The experience has quite simply changed my life. Not only have I lost I lot of weight, I have seen incredibly positive benefits to my physical, and emotional wellbeing. So much so I have set up a successful sugar free blog, face book page Practically a Sugar Free Me. And this weekend I have run my first ever sugar free workshops, raising awareness of the impact sugar can have on our wellbeing. Over 2 days I had 21 people attend, all of them went awayou with a greater awareness, and looking to reduce sugar in their diet. It was an extremely proud moment for me, as 2 years ago could never imagined attending one, letting alone running two sugar free workshops. I will definitely be sharing this page with others in the future.
Keep up the good work! I know that this awareness can change some people’s’ life. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you. I could post your blog if you like. Thank you.
I am so pleased that there is awareness about this subject. For years I have battled with my own food addictions and found the best recovery in talking with like minded people.
It was hard the first day because sugar is in so many things. It was a challenge to even shop and keep fruits or other healthy foods in the house. Just having something other than Sprite to drink was hard. But after a couple days it was a bit easier and my family was helping too.
I’m gonna to try to work on my sugar problem and I’ll try to not eat so much of it.
That’s wonderful that you’re giving back to others. Awareness of ourselves is key!
I’m gonna do the sugar challenge it’s not exactly a challenge so I’ll do it anyway just for the heck of it
Your participation is appreciated and hope you learn something new about yourself. We know others will benefit from hearing about it!
I’m going to try to do the best I can., eating 3 small packets of Skittles per day is not good…. My sugar consumption is definitely linked with my emotions – usually anxiety – but a little after I’ve had the sugar I feel slightly low and sluggish. I recognise I am trying to grab at a short lived fix which has a negative effect when the cycle is continued. A 5 day challenge is something that erationally does feel me with fear but I will try to embrace it. My result in the quiz was over 70% this was mainly due to my behaviour around sugar, I obviously have a substance misuse issue around sugar.
Thank you so much for participating in our discussion, Paula! So many people are experiencing exactly what you are going through, and we really appreciate and admire your candor. Trying something new can being very scary, which is why we created this discussion forum. We hope we can provide a place where you can feel safe in giving us your feedback and where people can encourage each other as they become more aware of how sugar affects them. Awareness is key, and the first step in changing anything you want to change in your life. We would love it if you continued to tell us how your challenge is going! Day 5! Five hours to go and it was illuminating. I was just talking to my “support group” and I realized for the last two nights I’ve had some pretty awful nightmares. I’m a tough old bird and I just shrugged it off. I think that was because of unregistered anxiety. I had no idea! Was this caused from total sugar stoppage? I think so. So my body was telling me it was in some sort of sugar withdrawal. Wow. I shall be taking bigger steps to ween myself to lower levels of sugar. Permanently.
Thanks for the apple recipe, it was delish!!!
and the extra spices played tricks on my sense of taste, It was actually satifying .
Thank you so much for all the great tips.
If you publish another blog would you kindly add my name
Cristine
Day 4. Woof. I don’t think I’m actually going through sugar withdrawal but I am going to buy/bake something sugar/chocolate/gooey when I finish this challenge! When I want sugar I just tell myself to look forward to the end reward and that helps. I am also absorbed with the blizzard that is about to hit my old hometown. Thinking of others takes my mind off it too. My daughter Adrienne also makes chips and guacamole with a high sugarless protein bread. Yum!
I think more about something when I can’t have it for awhile but I feel that is probably pretty normal. They say it takes 21 days to change behavior.
Does anyone know if there is sugar in the “green sauce” at Chipotle? I no longer assume things don’t have sugar in them just because you can’t taste it thanks to this blog! How does one find out about added sugars BEFORE going to a restaurant? Any ideas?
Thanks for your questions and feedback Eydie! I was wondering about Chipotle myself, and I was surprised to find that almost nothing has added sugar! They sometimes use a little honey in the marinade for their chicken and beef and there is a bit of dextrose in the corn tortillas. Here is a list of the ingredients they use.
Ty for your suggestions!
I replaced chocolate ice cream bars with frozen grapes!
Then I went to the store to buy sugarless chocolate.
Its all about the chocolate. 😋
